The U.S. has used Daylight saving time since 1966.Under the old rules,It starts the first sunday in April at 2;00 A. M.,and ends the last Sunday in October.In the U.S. each time zone switches separately.Several regions do not participate in Daylight saving time;Hawaii,American Samoa,Guam,Puerto Rico,The Virgin Islands,and Arizona.However the Navajo Nation does observe it ,including the portion inside the state Arizona
The European Union calls the change Summer time.Under the old rule it would begin the last sunday in March at 1;00 A.M. Universal time(G.M.T.),and end the last Sunday in October,also at 1.00 A.M. Universal time.All time zone changed at the same moment
Why did it change?
On Aug.8 2005President George W.Bush signed the Energy policy act of 2005.The law changed the time change dates for Daylight saving time.The secretary of energy will report the impact of this change to Congress.Congress retains the right to go back to the old dates once the study is complete
